So many people are dreaming about visiting Cappadocia in Turkey, seeing the hundreds of balloons while relaxing in a cave while enjoying breakfast there. Check out this honest review on Cappadocia.

Where is it located?

Cappadocia is a region in the center of Turkey with basically nothing surrounding it. The biggest city is Konya, but I guess most people are not even stopping there, same as me, just passing by.

Cappadocia is known for its unique mountains which are pointy and just look like a different planet. In the mountain landscape you can find many caves, which were used by humans until not that long ago. Some caves are now used for tourism reasons. Hotels and restaurants are made out of them.

Is it that beautiful?

You can’t decline it, but the Cappadocia region is for sure beautiful, the landscape is fantastic. It is great to do some hikes and enjoy the sunrise and sunset.

It is interesting over there, there is a lot of history in the region. The tourism center isn’t that huge, you can for sure check out most of the things in one day. There are some interesting caves to check out, but usually people are just staying in the little towns and surrounding areas.

When getting out of the region, it is basically just flat dry land, which can be beautiful, but not as special.

What can you do in Cappadocia?

In Cappadocia you can’t do as much, you can go riding with horses, riding quads or other small vehicles through the landscape. It is of course possible to go hiking, which is quite nice, and climb the mountains up.

You can check out some beautiful restaurants and hotels, of course the balloons, but that is already it. There is not much to do.

You can check out some artifacts from the history of the region, but there aren’t any more.

Where to stay in Cappadocia?

There are almost no options, you can stay like most people in Goreme, where most things are happening. Also you could stay in one of the other little towns around. The further away you are, the further away you are from experiencing the balloons, which is probably the only thing why people are going there!

Most people are staying in cave hotels, which are quite pricey. I was staying in a cave in the mountains for free, by just climbing in one, click here to read more about it

For whom is it good for vacation?

I believe it is very good for couples to go there, for people who like to spend money and don’t mind just chilling most of the day. It is like mentioning a beautiful place, just not much to do.

There is a huge interest in tourists coming there, so you need to be well with a lot of tourists visiting the place with you.

The most important thing is, compared to the whole country of Turkey,Cappadocia is just way more expensive than other places. I was visiting it for free, but to be fair there wasn’t any comfort included, click here to read more about it.

Who should consider not going?

When you want to be on a discount and have not much time in Turkey. Cappadocia is quite far away from everything else. You need some time to reach there and will lose at least two days for arriving and departure, which is only possible to avoid by taking a plane.

When you just want to come for the balloons, make sure that you are coming in at a good time. The balloons are not flying every day. The weather needs to be good enough. Also there are also other places where you can see a high amount of balloons, but of course it is quite nice to see them in Cappadocia. Also when you can’t wake up early then you are probably going to miss the balloons.

It is small and a tourist hotspot, that’s something I personally don’t like. Even during the time of covid and in winter Cappadocia was crowded, so I don’t even want to know how it must be in the seasons.

When you don’t like seeing couples in love, it might be also not the best idea to come there

Summary

Cappadocia is an interesting place, beautiful and everything, it is just super touristic and far away from everything.

The caves are cool and the places to visit are worth seeing. Also there is not much to see, because it is not huge at all over there.

There are not many places to discover and not much to do. The balloons are flying very early and Cappadocia is, compared to the rest of the country, super expensive, so just not what everyone expected at the end.
