The devil’s pool is one of the biggest tourist attractions around the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side. It is a little pool right at the edge of the famous Victoria Falls. You are swimming, while next to you the water is dropping. Sounds amazing? It is but I tell you why you might not want to visit it!
Where is it located?
The devils pool is a little natural pool on the edge of the Victoria Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in the world and one of the most famous tourist attractions in all of Africa.
The Victoria Falls are located at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Right at the town of Livingstone in Zambia and the border town Victoria Falls on the side of Zimbabwe.
To have the best view of people who are visiting the devil’s pool, you need to go to the Zimbabwean side. When you want to enter the pool, you need to take the tour at the Zambian side.
Why is it so famous?
The Victoria Falls are really famous in general and when being able to swim at the edge of the impressive waterfall it is just something special.
Hundreds of thousands of people are visiting the falls each year, so that alone is a big tourist attraction. Also you are able to do bungee jumping near the falls and fly over them. But when thinking about it, sitting and swimming in them and having the water drop down right next to you, it can be a crazy experience.
The photos you will have, when doing the tour are interesting and crazy to have, that would be the reasons why it is famous.
What is important to know?

So before there, that should be something to keep in mind, when the goal is to go inside the pool.
It is generally speaking safe, some people died but in general nothing to worry about.
When you are visiting Zimbabwe, you need to cross the border to Zambia for it, but from Zimbabwe you have the best view of the falls itself, so it is possible to see the pool and all the tourists from Zimbabwe.
The tour is about an hour and a half and is probably not giving you a special feeling, more to it in the next section.
What does it cost and what does the tour look like?
Prices start at around $100 for a around 1-2 hour tour. You will need to do a hike there and wait in line, until you can get a chance of entering the pool.
I haven’t been inside the devil’s pool, but seeing it from the distance put me off to do it, it was looking so ordinary. Seeing many groups in line waiting for their five minutes in the pool, to take some pictures.
Needing to stress and hurry, because more people want to get in the pool, can’t be relaxing and cool.
Basically you are spending over $100 for just having five minutes with some other people and taking pictures. It is sad how they badly want to get all the money from the tourists. Making out of something special, just a factory for printing money.
Totally understandable, that they want to make money with that incredible natural phenomenon, which is also good for them. The stressful situation and pressure was just putting me off and let me see it as something not worth visiting.
So everyone, before wanting to do that, should just think about the facts and decide for yourself, if that is something worth spending the money for.
Why I think you should not do it.
Like mentioned in the topic before, I don’t like to process tourists and spending over $100 for having a few nice pictures. I’m not sure if it’s the best to invest in that. When you don’t care, then go ahead.
There is another option, which I think is a bit better. You can take an illegal tour, where you spend less money, and will be there after everyone, so you should have a bit more time. The problem about it is, that it is illegal and also can be more dangerous doing this. When choosing the illegal tour, be sure that you can trust the tour guide. Your life is more important than spending some money and having more time in the pool.
Summary
The Victoria Falls are amazing and for sure worth visiting! With the devils pool I have mixed feelings, due to what I saw and heard, when I was there.
For sure it is probably an impressive experience, but it is important to know that information before deciding if doing it is something you want.
I was also there, to do it, it just was putting me off, when seeing the reality from the other side and hearing stories about it.
