While doing a short trip through Syria we were crossing through the cities. On the way from Damascus to Aleppo we stopped in Homs. Happy kids in Syria
Where is Homs located?
Homs is the third biggest city in Syria and located in the Western Center of the country. It is really close to the border of Lebanon. During the siege of Homs, the city was one of the major rebel strongholds during the Syrian Civil War. This is one of the reasons why the city of Homs was that strongly destroyed!
How was the time in Homs?
After quite a long ride with the car, it was time to enter the city. You were seeing right away the impact of the civil war. A lot of destroyed buildings were found everywhere and you just realized right away, how the life of the people might be.
Whole building blocks were totally on the ground, at least the road was working. The people were walking through the city as if nothing happened. It was a surreal thing, which you usually see in documentaries or in the news.
To the picture
I was taking this picture while walking through the ruins. The two little kids were used to that and probably didn’t know anything different. They were laughing and running around, to make the city their playground. It was such a nice thing to see, that children will find happiness in all situations. I personally think that also in adult life that one should be able to achieve. We can sometimes look up to the kids with their view of the world. Happy kids in Syria, it is possible seeing something beautiful, even in places where you don’t assume that!
