Reading Time: 2 minutes

The island of Java is really popular when it comes to visiting Indonesia. Many people are visiting Mount Bromo as well, a volcano near Malang and Probolinggo which is still active.

Normal prices

For Indonesians the price for entering the national park is at around 30.000 Rupees (around 2 Euros) and for foreigners 240.000 (15 Euros), to even 340.000 (21 Euros), depending on the day. To be fair I don’t say anything, because of one thing, you can get into the national park for free!

Between the Saputra View Bromo Guest House and the Cemara Indah Hotel is a little path called the Donkey Path. There are no signs, you are just walking the trail in between and downhill.

What is the Donkey Trail and where is it?

Basically it is a mountain back into the town or to the national park. It is used by the locals, who come with their horses to the volcano and let people ride them up and down. They make money with it and don’t need to pay the entrance fee for the national park.

I just got lucky due to my friend. He told me that there is a possibility to get it for free and it worked. The hike isn’t very long but quite difficult, slippery and annoying, but you are saving money.

It is important to remember where it was, because it will be otherwise quite difficult to find it again. It is basically just in the trees, so really important to somehow recognize it, better take some pictures.

What is the other way?

The other way is the “normal” way, the way all tourists are doing. They are booking a little tour, which will be around 50 Euros and you are going to do the sunrise and the Bromo volcano and drive with the car into the national park. Of course it is more comfortable, you don’t need to walk much and are quicker. Also you can sleep more. It is always like that, more comfort = more expensive. I chose the cheap version, for which I was paying $0 and was able to get the sunrise experience and see the Bromo volcano.

There is no entrance fee for the volcano, so when you are in the national park, you are free to go! It is quite hot, so better put some long clothes on or sunscreen, burning is easy there.

The tourism amount is quite high over there, keep that in mind. This is just a short article, because you don’t need much information about this topic, just enjoy that you are saving some money while visiting!
